Nikon Fixes Problem Many Complained About

Nikon today began offering a battery swap for owners of EN-EL15 batteries labeled Li-Ion1 (the D500’s battery is labeled Li-Ion20). Nikon claims that the Li-Ion20 battery has “modified electrical discharge characteristics.”

To get your replacement battery, you’ll have to provide Nikon with a sales receipt for a D500. There does not seem to be a limit to the number of Li-Ion1 batteries Nikon will replace (I’ve got four).

To see the details, go to this Nikon page.

What’s left unsaid by Nikon is why those same batteries they’re replacing work perfectly fine in other Nikon bodies. Even more interesting, I’ve now got enough data to isolate to some batch numbers, but Nikon is just replacing all batch numbers.
