With Nikon's recent changes to aperture and focus technology, it's time to make sure we have one spot to address which camera bodies can handle the latest Nikkor lens technologies with full compatibility (if your camera isn't on this list, it can't). 

E Lenses (designator after the aperture value, as in f/2.8E)

  • All FX bodies (starting with D3)
  • All Z System bodies using FTZ adapter
  • D300/D300s
  • D500
  • D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D3500
  • D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600
  • D7000, D7100, D7200, D7500
  • special case: D90 can handle only the PC-E lenses (19, 24, 45, and 85mm)

AF-P Lenses (some cameras may need firmware updated; see AF-P compatibility article for more)

  • Df
  • D5, D6
  • D500
  • D750, D780
  • D810, D810A, D850
  • D3300, D3400, D3500
  • D5500, D5600
  • D7100, D7200, D7500
  • All Z System bodies using FTZ adapter
